All MULTOS smart cards implement "Secure Trusted Environment Provisioning" (STEP), the public key based mechanism for installing a secured packet of software to a remote device, meaning that they can be securely provisioned with new software remotely, yet securely, through ATM, Internet, POS or wireless networks, regardless of the reliability of the network connection.
