SMARTCON joins The MULTOS Consortium
Brazil’s leading smart card and EMV experts join the MULTOS group of companies
Sao Paulo, Brazil, 27th April 2010
SMARTCON, a consulting company specialising in smart cards and EMV today announced that it has joined The MULTOS Consortium, a group of international blue chip organisations responsible for the ongoing development and promotion of the MULTOS smart card platform.
SMARTCON is a provider of EMV products and expertise to customers in the financial services sector in Brazil and worldwide. Their innovative iEMV card application is licensed by banks and payment networks who wish to deliver a complete ‘private label’, EMV-powered payment system. iEMV is based on the latest EMV specifications and includes many features that permit Issuers to define and deploy their own unique payment scheme requirements in areas such as card risk management. SMARTCON also delivers software and systems for EMV card acceptance, including a pre-certified EMV kernel for payment terminals and ATMs. Their product range also includes software libraries for integration into Issuer authorisation systems, to ensure Issuers can properly process chip-enabled transactions and take full advantage of the security of the EMV scheme.
As Brazil has a well-developed national PKI infrastructure (“ICP-Brasil”), enabling legally-binding digital signatures generated by smart cards, customers deploying iEMV can also deploy SMARTCON’s PKI application for secure digital signature alongside the payment application on a single MULTOS card. SMARTCON also delivers the PC middleware to support the on-card PKI application. SMARTCON has been delivering MULTOS solutions to major Brazillian customers since 2004.
Joining as a Professional Partner member, SMARTCON may participate in the full range of consortium activities including the MULTOS Business and Technical Advisory Groups and will contribute their expertise in EMV and PKI to the future development of the MULTOS technology.
“Although we have been involved with MULTOS for years now, we are excited to join the consortium as a formal partner. We believe MULTOS is the most secure smart card operating system for electronic payment applications and we are keen to be able to collaborate with our feedback on how to improve the specifications in the future, as well as to help promote MULTOS as a global standard”, says Daniel F. Nunes de Oliveira, SMARTCON’s Business Development Director.
Alan Johnson, Technical Director of The MULTOS Consortium, comments “SMARTCON has been assisting the deployment of private-label EMV, PKI and MULTOS to customers in Brazil for many years and have a wealth of experience delivering the most innovative multi-application card experience that combine EMV payments, national PKI and other applications. They have demonstrated many innovations in payment technology, such as replacing the PIN with match-on-card fingerprint verification. Such advances are only possible due to their deep understanding and knowledge of both EMV and MULTOS. On behalf of the consortium, I welcome SMARTCON to the membership and we hope to share their innovative products and expertise, developed in Brazil but with global scope and significance, to MULTOS’ customers and partners around the world.”
