MULTOS Developer Cards

MULTOS applications may be developed and tested using the simulation and debugging environment provided by your development toolkit, however at some point you will need to load and test your application using a real MULTOS smart card. MULTOS now provides two types of smart card that may be used by developers: The MULTOS Developer Community Card and the MULTOS Application Developer Card. The card you need depends upon your specific requirements, however most testing requirements can be met using the new MULTOS Developer Community Card.

The MULTOS Developer Community can purchase pre-enabled "live" MULTOS smart cards that can be used to support the application development process. Using a Developer Community Card for testing is the same as using a real deployment card - and therefore gives the best environment for testing your application and supporting systems. Each Developer Community Card contains live key material, a unique Public/Private key pair for Confidential ALU creation and responds in the exact same way as a card used in deployment. As the Developer Community Card is a live MULTOS card, potentially any MULTOS Product may be used - including many implementations or memory sizes that are not available as Application Developer Cards (see below) - a wide range of current implementations are already available, but if specific implementations are required - these can be enabled as Developer Community Cards. This enables you to test your application using the exact product that will be used for deployment.

When you purchase a MULTOS Developer Community Card, you are provided with access to the new web-based StepXpress service from StepNexus, free-of-charge. StepXpress permits an application developer to request Application Load and Delete Certificates for their applications. StepXpress is available 24 hours a day, every day, and provides near real-time processing of your certificate requests. As these ALCs and ADCs are "live" certificates, they will only work with MULTOS Developer Community Cards.

MUTIL - the easy-to-use MULTOS Utility for Windows - can be used to load your application to a Developer Community Card with the ALC obtained from StepXpress. It can also be used to delete your application from the card. If you are building ALU generation or personalization software for your application, using a Developer Community Card gives a better testing experience, closer to that of the MULTOS deployment environment.

MULTOS Application Developer Cards

The MULTOS Application Developer Card is a special type of MULTOS card that contains test keys. Whilst this enables an application developer to create his own Application Load and Delete Certificates using his development toolkit, it does rather limit the testing of other supporting systems as ALL Application Developer Cards share the same test key values. Only a few MULTOS Products are manufactured with test keys and therefore the type of MULTOS Product you select for deployment may not be available as an Application Developer Card. Application Developer Cards are typically pre-enabled with fixed data, and therefore it may not be possible to accommodate a developer's specific requirements - such as communication speeds or ATR response values. Application Developer Cards can be obtained directly from MULTOS Implementers if you need a specific implementation or configuration.
