John Wood, Chairman of The MULTOS Consortium and CEO of StepNexus writes about MULTOS' last year (its 9th!), StepNexus' first year and the future...

"This has been a huge year so far. It looks like growth in MULTOS volume year on year will be around 80% and it looks like next year will compound this up.

Why?

Well the HK government doubled up and extended their successful ID card deployment to the deployment of passports.
The Turkish Military KMA is now commissioned and cards deploying for another happy customer with a fully sovereign system. We just installed the new KMA in a country in the Middle-East ready for the next stages of their National ID card project.

and...

Volumes at the Global KMA have doubled because of the success of MULTOS in banking and finance.

and...

JSS is having great growth due to the success of Hitachi's innovative FingerVein secured debit solution.
So now there are KMAs in London, Tokyo, HK, Istanbul, and that Middle-East capital.

and...

Now there are qualified implementations of full MULTOS on Infineon silicon (Keycorp), Renesas silicon (Hitachi/DNP), Samsung silicon (Samsung SDS) and coming early next year NXP silicon as well.

But wait...

There are also qualified implementations available of MULTOS step/one now on Infineon (Keycorp), Samsung (Samsung SDS) and also NXP early next year.

and what is the best thing? We remain totally disciplined with our commitment to testing and interoperability. Our new, enhanced Collis test suite is reducing the time it takes to get through the qualification cycle while retaining the MULTOS promise of application portability across all our qualified MULTOS platforms.

It's about the customers!!

So why did StepNexus join GlobalPlatform?

It's about the customers!!!

GlobalPlatform committed to fully supporting both MULTOS and STEP inside their Card management and Security Management frameworks alongside JavaCard and the alternative provisioning approach that they had evolved from the original Visa Open Platform contribution to GlobalPlatform.
StepNexus committed to supporting GlobalPlatform and to RAND (reasonable and non discriminatory) licensing for STEP.
Our common message to the industry and customers was... "This moves us to the unification of industry standards and methods created for smart cards across Information Technology (IT) and the various components of the smart card infrastructure." So the vision is interoperability, flexibility in device choice, and flexibility in platform choice.

It's about the customers!!!!

and for MULTOS......

Implementation and Silicon Platform options, Type approved interoperability, Proven Security, Total Quality and a supportive and innovative end to end supply chain. MULTOS has always been a smart choice for any customer to make. Working inside GlobalPlatform presents the opportunity to bridge platforms and make it easy for customers to make smart choices with confidence. StepNexus will be working supportively inside GlobalPlatform to deliver on the common message as stated above. We encourage the MULTOS stakeholders who are already involved with GlobalPlatform to help us and those who are not to join GP and help as well.
From a MULTOS Consortium viewpoint we will be working with the rest of the MULTOS team to make MULTOS an even more compelling choice for even more customers. It is great to have a product and a community to represent where you always know with confidence quality will always be delivered for the customer. This is our focus and path to winning.

It's about the customers!!!!!"

I am on-chip application developer. I received excellent technical support from MULTOS team in both HKID and HK ePassport projects. I would like to forward support I got from MULTOS team to others especially to Chinese, I maintain a blog (http://mcling.blogspot.com) sharing my experience in developing MULTOS on-chip application.
